Why we run a network we don't own.

Private practice can be lonely. The Kwinana and Rockingham Mental Health Professionals Network brings local practitioners, the City, local agencies, and community members into the same room to connect and learn together from our guest speakers in their field of practice.

What is the Mental Health Professionals' Network?

The Mental Health Professionals' Network (MHPN) is a national initiative. The Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing has funded it since 2008.

MHPN supports more than 375 local, state and national networks across Australia. It is free for practitioners to join.

MHPN also offers free online webinars and podcasts, so practitioners can keep learning between meetings.

This network is MHPN's initiative. We are delighted to be part of it, and to bring it to the Rockingham and Kwinana community.

The idea is simple. Practitioners from different disciplines in the same area meet regularly, learn something together, and get to know one another.

It is not a referral scheme and it is not a marketing group. It is a room where a psychologist, an OT, a GP, a social worker and a dietitian who work a few suburbs apart actually meet.

Andrea and Jackie are convenors of the Kwinana and Rockingham Mental Health Professionals Network. It ran its first event in March 2022. It meets monthly, with a professional development topic each time.

  • Who it is for: anyone working in mental health in the Kwinana and Rockingham area, including psychologists, OTs, social workers, GPs, nurses, counsellors, dietitians and peer workers.
  • How often: monthly, with a learning topic each time.
  • Cost: free.

Why we give time to it

We do not own MHPN, we do not charge for it, and the network is open to practitioners who are, on paper, our competitors. We do not think of it that way.

It is our community and our clients we want to connect to other practitioners in our community. Come along and see for yourself and connect with us.

For practitioners

You are welcome to attend we would love to connect with you, whatever your discipline and however long you have been practising. Newly registered practitioners are often the most isolated. If that is you, come anyway.

Email Jackie Wickham at [email protected], or find the network through MHPN.
